About a year ago a friend of mine posted on my Facebook page that I should try and recreate this dessert hummus she was seeing everywhere online.
At first I thought, dessert hummus? That just seems weird.
But the more I started to think about it, the more I thought it would just make sense. It should end up tasting just like cookie dough batter, or even brownie batter.
Plus, for how many times I bake with chickpeas {like this healthy confetti birthday cake, or my favorite healthy chickpea waffles} and they turn out super well, this dessert hummus should be no exception.
Brownie batter dessert hummus recipe: the simple ingredients
Seriously, this dessert hummus recipe is so incredibly simple {and might I add delicious}, that you’re going to wonder why you never gave it a try.
Just like regular savory hummus, we start with chickpeas. Pretty simple ingredient, and likely a pantry staple in your household.
Next, two scoops of my fave protein powder. I love using this vegan Shakeology chocolate protein powder because it has such clean, amazing ingredients in it. It’s like a double dose of protein in this dessert hummus when you add in this extra-rich chocolate protein powder.
Typically savory hummus uses olive oil to make it nice and smooth. I wanted something that was going to make this brownie batter dessert hummus nice and smooth and creamy, without using oil.
I opted for coconut milk, which was actually the perfect addition to this thick, chocolate-on-steroids dessert hummus. Just blend all the ingredients together until they’re smooth and creamy like traditional hummus.
All that’s left is to stir in some dark chocolate chips to make this the perfect double chocolate brownie batter hummus recipe.
Chocolate dessert hummus recipe: the dippers
All good hummus requires a good dipper, right?
Usually the savory hummus is dipped with veggies or pita bread or crackers.
This dessert hummus recipe focuses on using fruit, cookies and pretzels for its dippers.
Nilla wafers, apple slices, banana coins, or pretzels for a sweet and salty mix all make perfect dippers in this thick, creamy and brownie batter-like dessert hummus.
