Gender Reveal Party

This past weekend our immediate family came up to Madison to help us celebrate our gender reveal.

We decided to keep things small, which was perfect for us. It allowed us to see everyone’s candid reaction when they found out the gender of our sweet baby.

Burken and I found out the week before at our 20 week ultrasound. I know a lot of couples decide to wait and find out with everyone else. But we wanted the moment together, in the room, to find out the gender.

Not going to lie, it was extremely difficult to keep it a secret from our families for a little over a week. But it was so worth it to see their reactions!

And now we get to share with the rest of you!

Gender reveal party

Since we kept the guest list quite small, the amount of decorations was also kept to a minimum.

I wanted the focus to really be on the big reveal. So I purchased some cute “boy or girl” plates and napkins from Party City.

I definitely could have gone all out at Party City. They had some really cute and fun decorations that would have spiced up the party. But again, wanted to keep the focus on the reveal.

I bought a few balloons that really rounded out the party.

Gender guessing pool

Before we made the big reveal, we created a little pool.

Each person at the party chose a pink or blue sticky note. That was their gender choice.

Then they all had to write down their guesses for birth date, time, weight and length.

Each person who voted will get points based on how close or far away they are from each of the five categories.

Clearly the majority of our guests were guessing boy.

How to reveal the gender

The reason I also wanted to know the gender ahead of time was so that I could make the cake or cupcakes.

While a filled cake would have been a lot of fun, I really wanted everyone to see the gender for themselves.

So I opted for individual cupcakes. I have an amazing classic vanilla cupcake recipe, but I was crunched for time and cheated on the cupcake with a box mix.

Once the cupcakes were baked and cooled, I cut small holes in the center of the cupcakes. Then filled the hole with frosting, and placed the “lid” back on top.

I did make a homemade cream cheese frosting that was a perfect disguise for the color that was hiding inside.

The big reveal

The suspense was killing everyone, so we opted to do the reveal prior to eating lunch.

Each person got their own cupcake and was told to take a bite on the count of three.

It was the best watching everyone’s reaction when they bit into the cupcake and it was bright PINK frosting!!

WE’RE HAVING A GIRL!!

We loved the intimacy of the smaller party and being able to celebrate with our family.

Our healthy baby girl

After all we went through to get pregnant, we’re just so incredibly happy to know that our little girl is healthy and growing.

We obviously would have been ecstatic either way, but as a fashionista myself, I’ve already started thinking about the cute girl clothing we’ll buy, and how to decorate the nursery.

Our 20 week ultrasound confirmed that we’re on track for weight and length of baby.

We’re due on February 19, 2020, and we cannot wait to meet our beautiful baby girl then!
