This morning power green smoothie will get your day started off on the right foot. With a combination of grapes, spinach, avocado and peanut butter, you’ll get the best combination of fats and carbs all in one smoothie.
I am not a fan of mint in anything other than toothpaste or breath mints. So you will never find a shamrock shake or peppermint cookies or grasshoppers on this site {sorry, not sorry}. Instead, I’m sharing with you one of my favorite green smoothies in preparation of St. Patrick’s Day.
This smoothie is the perfect drink to kick off your day of drinking {if that’s what you plan to do this St. Patrick’s Day}. It’s full of good-for-you fats, a touch of sweetness and some spinach {which, I promise, you won’t even taste!}. The great part about this smoothie is that it’s filling without weighing you down.
If you’re going to be drinking green beer the majority of the day, why not at least start out with a healthy {green} shake to get you going?
I like to start all of my smoothies out with some whole milk Greek yogurt. This Chobani one is my favorite. So rich and creamy and blends so well into smoothies, and many baked goods as well {no, this is not a sponsored post, I just love it that much}! Whole milk Greek yogurt is also my go-to because it has live, active cultures for good gut health. It also doesn’t contain any weird by-products that can be used to make low-fat yogurts.
Add milk of your choice, which I would highly recommend this Silk Cashew milk. It’s quickly become one of my favorite alternative milks. It’s super creamy and thicker than traditional almond milk, which I really like for smoothies. Then it’s on to the fun part…the mix-ins!
For this particular green smoothie we’re adding in the following:
- green grapes: add just the right amount of sweetness
- ½ an avocado: a healthy fat to keep you full and to thicken the smoothie
- a hearty scoop of peanut butter: another healthy fat and is the right amount of peanut butter flavor
- a few handfuls of spinach: like I said, you won’t even taste it, AND you’re getting so many vitamins to boost your morning
- protein powder: use your favorite that has little sugar and high protein. I love both Garden of Life Organic and Quest
Morning smoothie prep
If you’re one who rushes in the morning, I like to prep this entire smoothie in my blender the night before. Then all I have to do in the morning is add ice and blend. I personally prefer to blend in the morning rather than prepping the whole smoothie the night before. I think it’s creamier and thicker just after blending. But if you’re super short on time in the mornings, feel free to blend and pour into jars the night before.
What are some of your favorite smoothie combinations? Let me know in the comments!
