Find out how to workout on vacation. 7 tips and tricks to maintaining a healthy workout routine and exercise while you’re on vacation.
We’re nearing the end of our vacation here in Myrtle Beach. We actually decided to rent a car today and drive down to Charleston, SC.
So far, time on the beach, walking the board walk, eating and drinking and enjoying each other’s company have made this trip amazing. For those of you who know me well, you know I love to workout. So, just because we’re on vacation does not mean that I stop working out for the whole week.
On the contrary, I think vacation is an excellent time to workout. Especially beach vacations. Between walking and/or running the beach in the morning and the fresh air, it’s the perfect time to exercise.
Have you rolled your eyes at me yet? Do you think I’m crazy for wanting to workout while on vacation? Well let the tips and tricks below change your mind!
How to workout on vacation
#1. Plan time to exercise/workout while on vacation
This one may seem like a no-brainer, but I think it’s one of the most important ways to ensure that you will workout while on vacation. I personally think working out in the morning is the easiest way to make sure you will stick to a workout while you’re traveling. If you don’t set aside time right away, by the time you explore and eat and drink, you’re very likely to skip exercising.
Plus, if you can squeeze in a 20 minute workout before everyone gets up and moving around, you’ll feel so refreshed and ready to take on the rest of your day.
#2. Pack cute workout clothes
Okay, another no-brainer. You need to first pack workout clothes to even workout while on vacation. Make vacation a good excuse to pick up a new pair of shorts, capris, sports bra or tank top that will make you feel amazing. I have an obsession with Old Navy workout clothes lately.
They’re comfortable, affordable and super cute. It’s a great way to motivate yourself to fit in that quick HIIT session or run on the beach.
#3. Drink lots of water
Water is so, so important. I talk about it a lot in the Healthy Living Lifestyle products. When you drink plenty of water you’re not only hydrating your body, but you’re also flushing out anything that’s been hanging around that shouldn’t.
You’ve likely had a few beverages while on vacation {I know I do!} so drinking water before bed and in the morning will ensure that your body is in better shape for a quick workout. You don’t want to feel dehydrated {read: hungover} while exercising. So get in that water!
#4. Don’t exercise alone
If you can, get your travel buddies to work out with you. It makes it easier to hold everyone accountable when you agree on working out together.
Whether you want to run the beach, walk the beach, hike, bike or lift a few quick weights if your hotel has a gym, it’s always easier with a buddy.
I’ve been working out for a long time, so working out alone {because Burken definitely won’t with me 😂😂} is totally fine by me. But for many others, having someone to motivate them to workout is best.
#5. Make yourself a killer playlist
Pop in your headphones {don’t forget to pack them!} and hit play on your favorite ‘pump-you-up’ music. I love to use Spotify because I can create all different kinds of playlists.
Once I’ve created a great playlist {checkout this workout one I listen to all of the time} I then download it. You can be on airplane mode and/or offline and still play your music. This way you’re never without a way to get your feet movin’.
#6. Use your time wisely
While running or walking in a new city are great ways to exercise, sometimes they can take up a lot of your day. If you’re looking to fit in a quick workout while you’re on vacation, then you need to make the most of your time.
Use HIIT {high intensity interval training} or Tabata {20 seconds of work, 10 seconds of rest} workouts to get your heart rate up quickly and burn a ton of calories in a short period of time.
You can either follow along with some of these videos below {which are a few of my favorite workouts}, or print off a few of these workouts to take with you.
#7. Make working out on vacation enjoyable
To some of you this may make you laugh. But my biggest hope is that you find exercises you really enjoy {again, don’t laugh} and use those to still workout while traveling. If you have fun videos/exercises, plus upbeat music and cute workout clothes, it can make working out a whole lot easier.
At this point, just enjoy the vacation you’re on. But if you continue to workout during this time, at least it won’t be so difficult to get back into it when you return home. Plus now that glass of rosé will look extra good after a quick, heart-pumping workout!
